The Diablas closed the World Hockey 2026: results and goals of Chile in the second phase

The Chilean selection contested the second phase of classification in Group G, where it faced England and South Africa. The Diablas later closed their world-wide participation in the party for the 15th place.

The Diablas completed their participation in the FIH Hockey Women's World Cup Belgium & Netherlands 2026 after facing a second phase of classification that led them to face England and South Africa, before fighting for the 15th place in front of New Zealand.

After the 4-4 tie to Australia that closed the first phase, Chile remained out of the fight for the first eight posts and went on to dispute the instance to define the positions from 9th to 16th place.

Defeat to England at the start of Group G

Chile's first challenge in this second phase was to England, at a meeting held on August 21 at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen.

The Europeans were imposed by 4-1, in a party in which Chile managed to open the scoreboard very early. Paula Valdivia scored the only national to the four minutes of play.

England reacted quickly and ended up turning the score thanks to the goals of Lily Walker, Hannah Bourne, who scored on two occasions, and Sophie Bingham.

The result left the Diablas forced to seek a victory in their next presentation to maintain their options to improve their position in the tournament.

Chile again competes with South Africa

The second meeting of the classification phase was before South Africa on 23 August, again on Dutch territory.

The Diablas starred in an intense meeting and ended up falling by 3-2, in a match that had Chile up on the score during the first quarter.

Fernanda Arrieta, using a short corner at 13 minutes, put the 1-0 for the Chilean selection. South Africa reacted and managed to turn the score with so many of Edith Molikoe, Ntsouco Mokoena and Caylin Maree.

Chile did not lower its arms and Simone Avelli marked the second national discount at 51 minutes. However, the African whole managed to hold the advantage to the end and took the triumph.

With this result, the Diablas closed their participation in Group G with only one point, which it dragged after the tie to Australia, recording three goals in favour and seven against in their two parties in this phase. The official FIDH table placed England in the first place, followed by Japan, South Africa and Chile.

New Zealand was the last global challenge

The last chapter of the Diablas in the 2026 World Cup was the stage of the Belfius Hockey Arena, where Chile faced New Zealand.

The national whole fell by 3-2, in a meeting in which Captain Manuela Urroz again assumed offensive protagonism and converted the two goals of Chile.

The performance of Urroz allowed the Chilean selection to remain in match until the end, but New Zealand ended up imposing itself by a narrow margin to close the national participation in the World Cup.

A new global experience for Las Diablas

The participation in Belgium and the Netherlands meant Chile's second consecutive presence in a Hockey World Cup on Cesped, after its premiere in the 2022 edition.

The national team remeasured itself to first-level selections and added a new international experience within a process that continues to seek to consolidate Chilean female hockey in the world elite.

Among the highlights of the campaign is the historic 4-4 tie to Australia, where Chile marked four goals, including so many of Laura Müller, Manuela Urroz, Florence Barrios and Fernanda Villagrán.

The experience gained during the World Cup represents a new chapter for the Diablas, which will continue their international process with a view to the next challenges of Chilean hockey.
