Santiago, June 22, 2023. - Today the Official Launch of the Junior Women's World Cup of Hockey FIH Chile 2023 was held at the headquarters of the Chilean Olympic Committee. The tournament will be held between November 29 and December 10 in the new courts of the National Stadium of Santiago.
The ceremony - where the groups were revealed and the calendar of parties - was attended by the highest government sports authority of Chile, Minister Jaime Pizarro, who stated that «that hockey has its courts in the National Stadium Park is a tremendous news, not just for infrastructure, but for what symbolizes being able to expand the number of players and players who are going to practice grass hockey. One year after the opening, having this kind of event is tremendous news.».
The groups were established on the basis of the first FIH Youth World Ranking as follows:
Group A: Australia, Chile, Netherlands, South Africa.
Group B: Argentina, Korea, Spain, Zimbabwe.
Group C: Belgium, Canada, Germany, India.
Group D: England, Japan, New Zealand, United States.
FIH President Tayyab Ikram said: "Through his approach to 'athletes first', mentioned in the new Empowerment and Commitment strategy recently launched, the FIH has made youth have a strong focus in the future. The Copas of the Junior World FIH play a crucial role in this regard."
The squadron led by Sergio "Cachito" Vigil was imposed by 1-0 in an intense dispute in the La Reina compound. The Ladies responded to their sympathizers, who came in mass to fill the stands to support this transcendental game. A beautiful and very familiar environment that inspires the future.
